Obituary of Joseph Sweat

Services for Joseph Sweat, 56, of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Church on the Rock, South Campus, 10503 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX, with Pastor Robert Renteria officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The family will gather at the church from 1:15pm until service time Saturday, to receive friends. Mr. Sweat died at his home in Lubbock, Friday, March 17, 2023. He was born May 23, 1966 in Clayton, NM, to Billy Duane and Nellie (Padilla) Sweat. He was raised in Portales and graduated Portales High School in 1984. He lived in Las Cruces for 12 years working at NMSU. He married Tina Faubus February 25, 2012 in Lubbock. Joseph was employed as a security guard at Texas Tech University Museum since 2013. He was a huge Star Trek and comic book super hero fan. Joseph was preceded in death by his father; Billy Duane Sweat, and a brother, Ric Sweat. He is survived by his wife; Tina Sweat of Lubbock, 4 children, Kimberlie Woodcock of Lynnwood, WA, Christopher Woodcock Tristan of Greenville, TX, Kirk Woodcock and Kirsten of Okinawa, Japan and Collin Faubus and Neve of Abilene, TX, 3 grandchildren, Kayla Woodcock, Colt and Roan Faubus and a granddaughter due the last of April. Joseph is also survived by his Mother, Nellie Sweat of Portales, NM, 2 brothers, Mike Sweat and Dora and David Sweat and Priscilla, all of Portales, Mother-in-law, Chris Faubus of Lubbock and 2 great nephews that he helped raise, Brandon and Scotty Busby of Las Cruces, NM.
