Services for lifetime Abernathy resident, Billy Floyd Shipman, 83, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, July 1, 2017, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell and son-in-law, Eric Lunday, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.

Mr. Shipman died at his home in Abernathy, Thursday, June 29, 2017.

He was born November 22, 1933, in Abernathy, to Floyd Emmitt and Neva M. (Cowart) Shipman.  He graduated Abernathy High School in 1953 and married D'Aun McNeely, June 12, 1953, in Abernathy.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, served as an Abernathy City Councilman and had been a member of the Jaycees.  He was serving on the Abernathy Country Club Board of Directors when the swimming pool was built and he was instrumental in building the North residential parts of Abernathy, known as the Phillips Addition.  He was an avid hunter, loved cooking, bar-b-queing and fish frys, but most important was his family.

He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Micaiah Tardy, September 8, 2012, and siblings Sammy Hugh Shipman, Carl Shipman, Berniece Wood, Gennie Loper and Glen Shipman.

He is survived by his wife, D'Aun Shipman of Abernathy, 4 children, Jan Myatt and husband Tommy, Nan Riley and husband Steve all of Abernathy, Roddy Shipman and wife Jo Ann of Guthrie, TX, and Kathy Lunday and husband Eric of Rowlett, TX, a brother, Marion Shipman and wife Peggy of Cedar Park, TX, 2 sisters, Jean O'Briant of Lubbock and Donna Blalock and husband Hayden of Lewisville, TX, 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Cemetery, c/o First State Bank, P. O. Box 150, Abernathy, TX 79311 or to a favorite charity.
