Obituary of Marion Buford Conn
Services for Buford Conn, 91, of Littlefield, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 2, 2017, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike O'Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Lubbock, TX. The family will gather at Abell Funeral Home Monday from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm to receive friends. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Mr. Conn died Sunday, April 30, 2017, in Littlefield, TX.
He was born August 23, 1925 in Briscoe County, TX to Walter Hobson and Pearl Bernice (Edens) Conn. He attended his early years of school at County Line, TX, and graduated from Abernathy High School. He enlisted in the Marines at the age of 17, Serving during WWII, stationed at Pearl Harbor as Military Police at the main gate. He was assigned to Admiral Nimitz's detail when he was on the base. He married Dortha Mae Barron December 19, 1947 in Abernathy.
Mr. Conn was a member of the Abernathy Masonic Lodge, 1142, the Scottish Rite Temple, Khiva Shriners and Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worshipful Master and District Grand Deputy of the Masons. He was a 50 year member and Deacon at County Line Baptist Church. They moved to Abernathy in 2000 from County Line, after moving, they became members at the Abernathy First Baptist Church. They moved to Littlefield in December of 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 2 grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Dortha Mae Conn of Littlefield, TX, a son, James Conn and wife Joyce of Abernathy, a daughter, Paula Lawrence and husband Bruce of Anton, TX, 5 grandchildren, Jason Conn, Bryan Conn, Paul Lawrence, Lee Roy Lawrence and Amber Parkinson, 9 great grandchildren, and a sister, Joyce Whitfield of Carlsbad, NM.
The family suggests memorials to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030 or to Legacy of Love Hospice, 125 E. Marshall Howard Blvd, Littlefield, TX 79339.
