Obituary of W. C. Bryant

Graveside services for W.C. "Birdie" Bryant, 90, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, October 9, 2015, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Randall Carr and Delaine Rapp officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Mr. Bryant died Tuesday, October 6, 2015, in Lubbock, TX.
"Birdie" was born September 22, 1925 to Jesse and Agna (Billingsley) Bryant in Pecan Gap, TX. He attended school in Abernathy and played basketball and ran track. After graduation, W.C. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from January 15, 1944 until May 8, 1946. He married Imogene Myatt on April 12, 1947 in Lubbock, TX and farmed his entire life in the Abernathy area. "Birdie" spent many years coaching Little Dribblers Basketball and Little League Baseball. He was an avid sports and stock show fan watching not only his grandchildren, but those of the community also. He truly "bled maroon and white". W.C.was elected to the Board of Directors of the South Plains Electric Coop. Over the years, he served as a Deacon and later as an Elder at the Abernathy Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Bryant on June 28, 2012, two brothers, Mitchell Bryant and W.T. Bryant and a sister, Rachel Austin.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Andrews of League City, TX, and Carolyn Goodwin and husband, James, of Lubbock, TX, a son, Larry Bryant and wife, Dana, of Abernathy, 8 grandchildren, Damon Andrews and wife, Tiffany, of Bonham, TX, Davin Andrews and Lora Andrews, both of League City, Krista Gibson and husband, Phil, of Oak Point, TX, Erin Cillessen and husband, Duane, of Alto, NM, Magan King and husband, Shiloh, of Lubbock, Jaime Kuykendall of Ardmore, OK, and Jeff Goodwin and wife, Tracy, of Louisville, KY, and 16 great-grandchildren.
