Obituary of Bruce Brightbill

Military graveside services for Bruce Brightbill, 85, of Cotton Center, TX, were held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 23, 2010, in the Abernathy Cemetery followed by a Memorial service at 11:30 am in the First Baptist Church, Cotton Center, TX, with Rev. J. D. Templeton and Rev. Joel Perez officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. The Britghtbill family greeted friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy, TX. Mr. Brightbill died at his home Monday, December 20, 2010. He was born November 13, 1925 in Marysville, KS and served in the 45th Infantry Division of the United States Army during WWII. He married Dorothy Rhodes on September 14, 1947 in Abernathy. They lived in Arizona from 1964 until moving back to Abernathy in 1974. They had also lived in Lubbock and Amarillo and in 1999 moved to Cotton Center, TX. He was a Charter member of the Abernathy Riding Club, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abernathy and Cotton Center and was attending the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters, a grandson, Chris Brightbill and daughter-in-law, Debbe Brightbill. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Cotton Center, TX, 4 sons, Jerry of Plainview, TX, Darryl of Abernathy, TX, David of Monrovia, MD, and Randy of Cotton Center, TX, 1 sister, Carol Bryant of Tuscon, AZ, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Debbe Brightbill Art Memorial Fund at Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, TX. Abell Funeral Home
