The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Tuesday, July 7th from 5:00 pm until 6:30 pm. Mr. Jones died Saturday, July 4, 2015, in Lubbock, TX. Ed was born in Anson, TX, August 27, 1929 to W. E. and Nancy Irene (Welch) Jones. He won the heart of Imogene Lula Wales and married his beautiful bride on January 14, 1950 in Caldwell, TX. Imogene was the true love of his life, and they spent fifty-five wonderful years together. Ed was raised in Gainsville, TX and lived in New Deal, Slaton, and Abernathy. Ed had three great loves in his life: his family, his country, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he visited the Promised Land in 2006. He proudly served his country as a fireman aboard the USS Hawkins in the United States Navy from September 10, 1947 to July 5, 1949. He earned his pilot's license and enjoyed flying small aircraft. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Ed humbly served his community in many capacities, and was a man who could be counted on by others. He was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the New Deal Lions Club. Ed loved the church, and lived a life that honored the Lord. He served as a deacon in Baptist churches in New Deal, Comanche, and Abernathy, TX for many years. He served the children in his community as a member of the New Deal School Board, coached little league baseball, and was a Boy Scout leader. Ed was a hard worker who held jobs as a farmer, a truck driver, and a school bus driver. Above all, Ed was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a gentle, quiet man with a servant's heart who was dedicated to his family. He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Bryan Jones in 1971, his beloved wife, Imogene Lula Jones in 2005 and two brothers, Lee Jones and C. W. Jones. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia McCullough and her husband Glen of New Deal, TX, and a son, David Jones of Columbus, OH. Known fondly to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Pampa," he is also survived by two grandsons, Derrick McCullough and his wife Kerri of Nashville, TN, and Travis McCullough and his wife Kathleen of Olton, TX, as well as four great grandchildren, Josiah-Thomas, Hallie, and Nathan McCullough of Olton, TX, and Chloe McCullough of Nashville, TN. Ed is also survived by a brother, Robert Jones of Weslaco, TX, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, #12A, Lubbock, TX 79424.
