Obituary of Garvin Bridges

Graveside services for Garvin W.Bridges, 85, longtime resident of Hale Center, TX, were held 2:00 pm Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Hale Center Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX. Mr. Bridges died July 5, 2010, in Hale Center, TX. He was born on April 28, 1925 in Hale Center, TX, and served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He married Evelyn Grisham on December 15, 1951 in Clovis, NM. He was a mechanic for Roy Uptergrove's Auto before he worked for Garrison Oil Company for 20 years, retiring in 1984. He served 50 years on the Hale Center Civil Defense and was named Honorary Member last month. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Bridges of Hale Center, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Frazier and Mertie Bridges, 2 brothers, Marvin and Melvin and a sister, Nancy Stricklin.
