Obituary of Bernie Joe Greenwood

Bernie Joe Greenwood, 85, of Lubbock, TX, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. He was born March 13, 1930 in Hale Center, TX and graduated Hale Center High School in 1948, where he excelled as an athlete and made appearances at the State level in Track. Bernie married the love of his life, Peggy "Squaw" Arthur, (as he affectionately referred to her) on May 14, 1954 in Hale Center. He proudly served his country during the Korean War, serving as SSGT in the US Army. He was an x-ray technologist for 37 years and served as president of the local and Texas x-ray societies. Bernie was a unique and special man of many talents including painting and singing. He loved and supported Texas Tech Athletics for 52 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents T. A. and Josie Greenwood, sister, Nova Dee and brothers Lloyd Ray and Harold J.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy, his "Lubbock son", Angel Berlingeri and wife Connie and grandson, his "bestest pal" James and wife Daylene and a brother, Thomas Sidney Greenwood, Sr. of Amarillo, TX and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Family Center at Abell Funeral Home in Hale Center, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church, Hale Center, with Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX.
The family suggests memorials be sent to a charity of your choice.
