Obituary of Jo Carter
Please share a memory of Jo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jo Carter went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Graveside services will be at 10:00am, Monday, December 8, 2014 in the Abernathy Cemetery. Memorial services will be at 11:00am in the Abernathy First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Drake, officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church following the memorial service. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Jo was born in Hopkins County on June 17, 1924. She and her husband, Earl moved to Abernathy in 1947, where they experienced fulfilling careers and raised their family. The love of her life preceded her in death on February 3, 2013.
She began working for Dr. Robert DeLaney in the mid-50s. Jo later served 27 years as business manager and receptionist for the Abernathy Medical Clinic. Generations of patients remember her compassionate care, as she also assisted in the exam rooms. She helped with the delivery of babies, often in the middle of the night. She and Earl retired in 1984 and enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.
Jo and Earl were members of the First United Methodist Church and the Lion's Club. Jo would call the list if a Lion's Club meeting was cancelled and was happy to bake for church family meals. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, housekeeper, and gardener.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Mickey (Jan) Carter, of Amarillo, daughter Peggy (Bob) Pearce, of Lubbock, grandsons Cecil (Melissa) Carter and Robert (Erin) Carter, of Amarillo, granddaughter Ashley (Grant) Looney, of Midland, three great grandchildren Emily, Brooklyn, & Claire, and a special niece, Sarah (David) Clark, of Nowata, OK.
The family is grateful for the loving care Jo received at Angel's Arms Assisted Living. Caregivers and residents conveyed how she had touched their lives in a special way. Also a special thanks to Accolade Hospice.
