Neighbors
Mr. Higginbotham (Mr. H) was my neighbor for almost 5-years. He was always friendly, kind, and always waved and smiled when we saw each other. He greeted my son Tillman and I the first day we started moving into our new house. He always sent us Christmas cards from he and his wife, and then it was from him and his beloved dog, Cowboy. Even when I got a new house in Abernathy...Mr. Higginbotham still sent us a Christmas card. I remember his kindness, how lovingly he had cared for his wife, and his love for his dog, Cowboy. I know Mr. Higginbotham was a good Christian man as well. He always had the most beautiful lawn. He loved to work in his yard with his dog by his side. He always stayed busy. He always had a smile on his face.
I will never forget being a single mom and having plumbing problems. Mr. Higginbotham came over to help me. He refused to take any money for his services. He had a kind and giving heart. He said "neighbors help neighbors."
I remember Mr. Higginbotham being so kind to his wife. He would carry her to his car to get her hair done. He took very good care of his wife right up until the day she passed away. He had told me a story about a dog he had before. He was lonesome and was going to find him a puppy similiar to the dog he had had before. He found one. Him and Cowboy were always together. You could tell his new dog made him very happy. They loved each other.
My dad got to know Mr. Higginbotham at all of the senior citizen events they both attended. Anytime my dad was in Abernathy, he always made sure to visit Mr. Higginbotham too. I know he is with his beloved wife and dog now. We will miss Mr. Higginbotham.
Mr. Higgenbotham: May all of God's Blessings and all of God's Miracles shine on your life today, tomorrow, and always. You are a light.
God bless you Mr. Higginbotham.
With Respect,
Melinda Ellsworth, Abernathy, Texas
