Ruth Sears Alley, member of a long time Hale County pioneer farm and ranch family, passed away on February 21, 2014, in Houston, Texas and was buried in Hale Center Cemetery on February 24, 2014. A family memorial will be held in Houston.
Ruth was born to Walter Glenn and Mary Florence Rippietoe Sears on December 1, 1910 in Stephenville, Texas. She was the youngest of five girls. Ruth moved to Hale Center in 1919 when her father became the Superintendent of the Hale Center Independent School District. She graduated from W. C. Stripling High School in Ft. Worth in 1928 where she was Class Vice President, Basketball Captain, and Valedictorian.
Ruth married Nick Alley, Jr. on November 29, 1929, in Clovis, New Mexico. They had two daughters, Jan and Carol, who grew up in Hale Center and graduated from Hale Center High School.
She was a long time member of the Hale Center Church of Christ. Ruth loved her family, friends and playing bridge.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her four sisters: Ima Sears Davis, Orlena Sears Harwood, Sylvia Sears Alexander, and Inez Sears Kling. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Jan and Henry Regnier of Houston, Texas and Carol and David Pearce of Rockwall, Texas; four grandchildren and their spouses: Chris and Megan Regnier of Georgetown, Texas, Ryan Regnier of Houston, Texas, Brian and Christa DeJarnett of Irvine, California, and Nicole and Matt Hobson of Houston, Texas; and three great grandchildren: Estella Regnier of Georgetown, Texas and James and Jacob Hobson both of Houston, Texas.
The family asks that remembrances be made to Hale Center Senior Citizens Association and to the Hale Center EMS.
