Services for Paul Robertson, 91, of Cotton Center, TX, will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in the First Baptist Church, Cotton Center, TX with Rev. Claud Tugwell officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm in Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, TX under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Monday evening from 6pm until 7pm.
Mr. Robertson died Sunday morning, July 7, 2013, in Lubbock, TX.
He was born February 9, 1922 in Pottsville, Arkansas, where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Army, stationed in India, Burma, Asia and Africa. Following his honorable discharge he married Naomi Hughes on October 19, 1946 in Idalou, TX. He farmed in Idalou for 8 years and was ordained as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of Idalou on December 18, 1955 shortly after they moved to Cotton Center where he farmed until retiring in 1987, he was also co-owner of the North Spade Gin, owned and operated Robertson Insurance Agency and owned a fertilizer business where he sold seed for Northrup King. He was a very active member of the Cotton Center First Baptist Church where he served on various committees and continued to serve as a Deacon.
He was a member of the Texas State Soil & Water Conservation Board, Executive Board member of the Baptist Convention, serving 2 terms and was a charter member of the Cotton Center Lions Club.
Paul was named in the Who's Who in Texas in 1975 as a distinguished member of the Board of Texas Independent Ginner's Association. He received the Goodyear Conservation Award in 1986. He also served on the Hale County Soli and Water Conservation District Board for 25 years. Paul served on the Texas State SWC Board, Area I from 1991 until 1995 and Region I from 1991 until 1998. In 1984 he developed and implemented the NPS program through the 73rd Legilative session Area I, Texas SWCD. He was recognized in 1992 by the Crop Hail Management for his loyal and dedicated service to the crop insurance industry as an agent. Paul received Special Recognition several years from the Texas Agricultural Extension Service of Texas A&M University.
In his earlier years he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and a member of thet BSA Alumni Family. He was also a member of the Texas Tech University Dad's Association and served as trustee on the legislative committee.
He is survived by his wife Naomi Robertson of Cotton Center, TX, 2 daughters, Martha Shackelford and husband Larry and Patti Mattison and husband Thomas all of Lubbock, TX, a brother, Glenn Robertson of Hale Center, TX, one sister Ena Trauer of Houston, TX, 3 grandchildren, Amy Wiggins, Jason Shackelford and Tobin Davis and 2 great grandchildren, Bailey and Kyle Shackelford.
