Services for Ric Bowie, 52, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 12, 2002, in the Second Baptist Church, Lubbock, TX. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Bowie died Friday, October 4, 2002, in Lubbock's University Medical Center. He was born on June 18, 1950 in Amarillo, TX, to Paul Clayton Bowie and Freda Kobler Bowie. He was a lifelong Lubbock resident graduating from Monterey High School in 1968 and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1986. He also served in the United States Marine Corps. He married Betty Smithee on June 23, 1996 in Lubbock, TX. Mr. Bowie was employed as a Lab Supervisor at the Texas Animal Health Commission and he also was a prison counselor at the Montford Unit, and was a counselor intern at the Lubbock Faith Center. He was a hot air balloon pilot for over 10 years and was past president of the Lubbock Balloon Club. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Clayton Bowie on November 9, 1981, and a brother, Tom Dobry in 1995. Survivors; wife, Betty Bowie of Lubbock, TX mother, Freda Bowie of Lubbock, TX 1 daughter, Riki Ross of Tuscon, AZ 1 stepson, Eric Thompson of Newport News, VA 3 stepdaughters, Paula Halfhill of Las Vegas, NV, Christine Seda of Princeton, Il, and Wendy Thompson of Charleston, SC 3 brothers, John Robert Bowie of Shawnee, OK, Tim Bowie of Colorado Springs, CO, and David Bowie of Pueblo, CO. 1 sister, Diana Bowie of Lubbock, TX 7 grandchildren The family suggests memorials be sent to the Second Baptist Church, Benevolence Fund, 6109 Chicago, Lubbock, TX 79424.
