Josie P. Young, 93, of Hale Center, TX, died Friday, February 10, 2012 in the Sterling County Nursing Home, Sterling City, TX. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012, in the Hale Center First Baptist Church with Brother Carol Green officiating. Burial followed in Plainview Memorial Park, Plainview, TX under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Young was born September 29, 1918 in Hale County, TX to Earl R. Springer and Amy Alice Willet. She married Charlie Young on February 2, 1937 and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hale Center. She worked in the Hale Center School Cafeteria from 1951 to 1961. She then worked for Harrison Grocery from the summer of 1964 until the tornado blew the store away in 1965. Sometime after the tornado she went to work for Don Maddin at his grocery store until she retired in 1980 at the age of 62. Mrs. Young is survived by a sister, Viola Carroll of Pleasanton CA; a son, Charles Young and Darlene of El Paso, TX.; one daughter, Glenda Sageser and B.J. of Brady, TX.; four granddaughters, Vicki Batla and Kenny of Garden City, TX.; Connie Woods and David of Amarillo, TX.; Kim Manns and Micah of El Paso, TX.; and Karrie Petrofes and Steve of Perth, Australia; 11 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; 3 brothers, Walter, Charlie, and Glen Springer; 2 sisters, Nola Roberson and Clara Young. Pallbearers are: Kenny Batla, Micah Manns, David, Mark, and Jeremy Woods. Honorary pallbearers are: Steve and Matthew Petrofes, and Tony Passalacqua. Abell Funeral Home
