Funeral services for Calvin H. Tucker, 78, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 25, 2003, in the First United Methodist Church, Abernathy, TX, with Rev. Steve Campbell and Rev. David Menefee, officiating. Military graveside services followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy. Mr. Tucker died Sunday, February 23, 2003, at his residence in Abernathy. He was born on May 28, 1924, in Lakeview, TX. He graduated for Spade High School, Spade, TX, in 1941. He married Mable Claire "Polly" Waddell on December 11, 1951 in Carson City, Nevada. She preceded him in death in November of 1992. He entered the United States Army Air Force in 1943, and served in the 8th Air Force in England during WWII. He also served during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from the Military at Travis Air Force Base in 1963. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Assoc., and the Enlisted and Retired Association. He was also a member of the Abernathy American Legion Post 500. He moved to Ft. Worth, TX in 1963 from California. He moved to Abernathy from Ft. Worth in 1968. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 1162 in Ft. Worth, TX, the Abernathy Lions Club, the Abernathy Senior Citizens and the Abernathy First United Methodist Church. He is survived by a brother, Thomas E. "Ray" Tucker of Sun City, Ca. The family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of Lubbock, 1102 Slide Rd., Ste. 3, Lubbock, TX 79416, or to a favorite charity.
