Graveside services for Melvin Clarence Stephens, 91, of Temple, TX, and formerly of Hale Center, Tx, were held at 10:00 am Friday, July 19, 2002, in the Hale Center Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX.
Mr. Stephens died Monday, July 15, 2002, in Temple, TX.
He was born on February 17, 1911 in Montague County, TX. He married Pauline McCarver on January 24, 1943 in Hollis, OK. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a Hale Center resident from 1926 until moving to Temple , TX in 1995. He was a member of the Hale Center Church of Christ, and had been attending the Canyon Creek Church of Christ in Temple. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, had participated in the Hale Center Senior Citizens and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was owner and operator of the Hale Center Garage and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

1 daughter, Freddie Mae Heuss and her husband Ronald Neal of Temple, TX.
2 sisters, Geneva Bearden and Goldie Hillman both of Hale Center, TX, Zelma Davis of Houston, TX.
1 granddaughter, Jennifer Heuss of Lubbock, TX.
1 adopted granddaughter, Cynthia Sue Schwenker of Alpharetta, GA.
2 adopted great grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Schwenker.
