Services for Venita Simmons, 75, of New Deal, TX, were held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 8, 2006, in the Sunrise Church of Christ, Lubbock, TX, with David Peebles and Michael Parks officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Simmons was born September 24, 1931 in Anton, TX. She married G. W. Simmons, he preceded her in death in January of 1988. She was a home health care aid for Covenant Home Health Care. She was a member of the Sunrise Church of Christ, and her big enjoyment was as a seamstress, quilting, fishing, watching sports and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by 2 daughters and their families, Meriva Damron, daughter, and her husband Duane of Lubbock, TX, and their children, Robert Crane and his wife Sonja of Lubbock, TX, Stephanie Frances Crane of Longview, TX and Jarrod Crane of Lubbock, TX. Kathy Bigham, daughter, and her husband Bill of New Deal, TX and their children, Craig Bigham and his wife Maggie of New Deal, TX, Christy Taylor and her husband Zach of Boerne, TX, Cari Bigham and Casey Bigham, both of New Deal, TX. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren and her 4 siblings, Neoma Stokesberry of Hereford, TX, Lawrence Jackson of New Deal, TX, Nadine Scales of Dover, Ark and Eugene Jackson of London, Ark.
