Graveside services for S. W. "Dub" Royal, 72, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 22, 2010, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Dave Menefee and Rev. Mike O'Donnell officiating. Services were under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Royal died at his home in Abernathy, Saturday, November 20, 2010. He was born June 23, 1938 in Abernathy, TX to Sterling Walker and Hixie Viola (Milner) Royal. He was a lifelong Abernathy resident and was manager of Consumers Fuel Association for 41 years, retiring in 2000. He workd with his son, Steve, after his retirement until 2009. He was a member of the Abernathy First Baptist Church and Lions Club. He served on the Board of the Plainview Stock Show and was an honorary Member of the FFA. He served on the Board of the Abernathy Country Club and was an avid golfer and sportsman. He was a dedicated to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Rubye Gaither and Roberta Coffer and a brother, Ross Royal. He is survived by his wife, Gwen Royal of Abernathy, TX, 3 children, Rhonda Barbee and husband Brian, Barry and his wife Wendy and Steve and his wife Erin all of Abernathy, TX, grandchildren, Rendi and Kent Webb, Sarah, Stephani and Steven Barbee, Stanton and Lindsey Royal, Addison, Garrett and Taylor Royal, and 2 great grandchildren, Henry Webb and Bronzon Royal. The family will receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Monday from 11:00am - 12:00 pm. The family requests memorials be sent to the Joe Arrington Cancer Center, 4101 22nd Place, Lubbock, TX 79410.
