Obituary of Laverne Lindsey

Graveside services for Laverne Lindsey, 94, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 30, 2010, in the Bethel Cemetery, Funston, TX, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Viewing was held at Abell Funeral Home, Abernathy, TX on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Mrs. Lindsey died Monday, December 27, 2010, in Lubbock, TX. She was born June 3, 1916 in Wilbarger County, TX to A. A. and Missouri Pet (Lucas) Miller. She graduated from Hamlin High School, Hamlin, TX, as Salutatorian She married Floyd H. Lindsey in Lovington, NM on November 11, 1953. She supported her husband when he founded and became CEO of Great Plains Life Insurance Company and built the Great Plains Life Insurance Building in Lubbock, TX, currently known as Metro Tower. They moved to San Antonio, TX from Lubbock in 1965 where they lived until she returned to Lubbock in 1991. She was a Baptist and housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd H. Lindsey, February 20, 1989, 3 brothers and 4 sisters. She is survived by nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Abell Funeral Home
