Obituary of Leslie Johnson

Services for Leslie Fielding Johnson, 88, of Hale Center, TX, were held 2:00 PM Friday, August 1, 2008 at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Dr. Carroll Green, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in Plainview, TX. He was born June 22, 1920 in Ashtola, TX and married Alma Rea Davis on November 4, 1939 in Olton, TX. She preceded him in death September 16,1974. He served in the United States Navy SeaBees during WWII making the invasion at Omaha Beach. He was then sent to the Pacific until the end of the war. He had been employed at Center Implement and Brown & White Implement in Sudan, Texas and farmed with his father in Hale Center. He later worked for Tillerson Fish in Plainview until retiring in 1982. After his retirement he enjoyed life from a tractor cab for many years, driving a tractor for many of the Hale Center area farmers. He is survived by a special friend, Corinne Gibson of Hale Center, TX, a son, Jim Johnson and his wife Elaine of Abernathy, TX, a granddaughter, Ayme & Mike Miles of Hale Center, TX, a grandson, Christopher & Stephanie Johnson of Lubbock, TX and 5 great grandchildren, Emily Stark, Cayla and Grace Miles, Jayden and Hunter Johnson.
