Obituary of Viola Gibbs

Graveside services for Viola Ailene Gibbs, 94, of Amarillo, TX were held 10:00 am Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Parklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. James Pierce of New Life Baptist Church in Longview, TX officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Gibbs died at Arbours Nursing Center in Amarillo, TX, November 14, 2006. She was born October 13, 1912 in Pauls Valley, OK. She married Elmer Gibbs in December of 1932 in Canadian, TX. She was a longtime resident of Hale Center where she worked in the kitchen at Hi-Plains Hospital and was a member of First Baptist Church. She moved to Amarillo in 1995. She is survived by a son J.E. Gibbs and his wife Teddye of Amarillo, TX, 2 daughters, Joy Carr and her husband John of Longview, TX, Wanda Jeffreys and her husband Jimmy of Clovis, NM, a brother, Owen Rowell and his wife Mary of Hale Center, TX, 3 sisters, Bobbie Arnold and her husband Benny of Stephenville, TX, Leota Magness and her husband John of Gun Barrell City, TX, Ellen Slaton and her husband, Bob of Plainview, TX, 3 grandsons, 3 granddaughters and 4 great grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband Elmer Gibbs in 1982, a son Raymond Gibbs in 2005 and 4 brothers. The family suggests memorials be made to BSA Hospice of Amarillo, 600 N.
