Obituary of J'Dereck Cornelius

Memorial service for J'Dereck Cornelius, 30, of Austin, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 10, 2024, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church, Abernathy, TX, with Rev. Janet Edwards officiating. Viewing will be held from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm Monday at Abell Funeral Home. Cremation and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. J'Dereck died in Austin, June 2, 2024. He was born January 7, 1994 to J.Paul and Shala Lee (Allen) Cornelius. J'Dereck attended Abernathy schools before moving to Arizona to spend a year with his Uncle Dereck and Aunt Lisa. While in Arizona he attended Hamilton High School and was on the wrestling team. J'Dereck returned to Abernathy before moving to Austin, TX in 2015. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Timberwolves fan. His infectious smile and laugh will be missed by many. J'Dereck was preceded in death by his mother, Shala Lee Cornelius on March 20, 2005, maternal grandfather, Darvin Allen on December 30, 2005 and paternal grandparents, Dewayne Cornelius, May 8, 2009 and Sue Cornelius March 8, 2017. He is survived by his father, J.Paul Cornelius of Crosbyton, TX, maternal grandmother, Joy Allen of Abernathy, 2 uncles and an aunt, Dereck Allen and wife Lisa of Boerne, TX and David Cornelius of Crosbyton, TX. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
