Obituary of Amy Kitchens

Memorial services for Amy Kitchens, 55, of Abernathy, TX will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Southcrest Baptist Church, Lubbock, TX, with Rusty Oglesby and Mickey Oglesby officiating. The family will gather to receive friends in the church foyer immediately following the memorial service on Wednesday. Cremation and services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Amy passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 in Dallas, TX. She was born December 6, 1968 in San Angelo, TX to Carl and Jayne (Cole) Montgomery. Amy grew up in San Angelo, TX and later attended Angelo State University. There, Amy met Mark Kitchens, and they married December 16, 1989. Following their wedding, Mark and Amy moved to Abernathy to raise their family. To their union were born three children; Jared Patrick Kitchens, Chandler Mark Kitchens and Sterling Cole Kitchens. By vocation, Amy was an elementary school teacher and faithfully stewarded young minds at many schools in the greater Panhandle area. Amy loved to fill her free time by being together with her children and grandchildren. Amy enjoyed being creative and could often be found sewing, painting, and crafting and she loved to bless others with the beauty of her creations. Amy was a dedicated member to her church family and enjoyed serving with Vacation Bible School, in the nursery, with youth groups, and various Bible studies. Amy attended Park Heights Baptist in San Angelo, First Baptist Church in Abernathy and Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. She is preceded in death by her mother Jayne Montgomery and a brother Patrick Montgomery. Survivors include her husband Mark Kitchens, Children Jared and wife Sarah of Richardson, TX, Chandler and wife Gertrude of Webster, TX and Sterling and wife Chloé of McKinney, TX as well as grandchildren Harper and Tatum Kitchens of Richardson. Additional survivors include a brother Ben Montgomery and wife Baylissa of Houston, TX, her father Carl Montgomery of San Angelo, in-laws Wayne and Terry Kitchens of Abernathy and multiple doting nephews and nieces. Amy will be remembered as a loving mother and Gigi, a loyal friend, a dedicated educator and a faithful servant to her communities.
