Graveside services for Texie Irene (Pursor) Armstrong, 93, of Lubbock, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Monday, March 25, 2024, at the City of Lubbock Cemetery with Pastor Dean Daniel, chaplain with Beyond Faith Hospice, officiating. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm Sunday, March 24, 2024. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX.
Mrs. Armstrong died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in Lubbock.
She was born August 6, 1930 in Dallas, TX to Leslie Garland and Texie Louamy (Pennington) Purser. She was raised in the Dallas area and moved to Lubbock in 1963. Texie Irene attended Draughan's Business College, earning a secretarial degree. She owned and operated several businesses over the years, including LaDon Motel from 1963 until 1985, Cakes by Irene and Apple a Day Pie Kitchen and was an avid bowler. She had been a longtime member of Parkway Drive Baptist Church and Genesis Baptist Church where she was church pianist at both.
Texie Irene was preceded in death by husbands, Albert Armstrong, Clarence Thompson, Virgil Brantley and J. P. Armstrong, 3 sons, Robert Armstrong, Roy Armstrong and Edwin Armstrong,4 step-children, Dorothy Noe, Wayne Thompson, Donald Thompson and Jane Carter, one brother and three sisters.
She is survived by 2 sons, Leslie Thompson (Latricia) of Lubbock and Darrell Armstrong (Kristy) of Huachuca City, AZ, a step daughter, Kathy Densmore of Weatherford, TX and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
