Graveside services for WIlma Yeary, 84, of Abernathy, TX will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, October 28, 2023 in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Dave Menefee officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Mrs. Yeary died on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at her home in Abernathy.
She was born on July 11, 1939 in Lubbock, TX to B.E. & Wilma (Sanders) Lester, the oldest of 5 children. Mrs. Yeary graduated from Lubbock High School in 1958. She always enjoyed talking about her time there with friends and classmates. She was friends with Jerry Allison, Peggy Sue, and all the members of the Crickets. Wilma grew up in a family of musicians and loved Texas Swing Music.
She married Jack Yeary, December 31, 1985, and lived in Lockney before returning to Abernathy, where she always considered her home.
She was an excellent bookkeeper and did this all her working life. She retired from Douglas Oil Company in Plainview, TX after 19 years at the age of 75, June of 2016.
Wilma was known by her family as Nana. Her kids, grandkids and great grandkids were the joy and love of her life. They all loved spending time with Nana. She lived a life working hard and always putting others before herself. kindhearted and blessed with a great sense of humor, she was a joy to all those who knew her.
Mrs. Yeary is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings and her husband Jack.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Wilson and husband, Paul, son, Warren Meeks and wife, Linda, and brother, Jimmy Lester, all of Lubbock, grandchildren Stanton Royal and wife, Lindsay, of Buda, TX, Rendi Webb and husband, Kent, of Abernathy, Cheyenne Meeks and Jamie Meeks, both of Lubbock, great-grandchildren Henry and Sterling Katherine "Kate" Webb, Bronsen and MaeLee Royal, Wilma was thrilled to have her bonus grandchildren, Sarah McInroe and husband, Charlie and their children, Lachlan and Isla, of Longview, TX, Emily Sills of Austin, TX, and Amy Wilson of Tyler, TX. She is also survived by a niece, Melissa Scott and husband David and their son William all of Frisco, TX.
The family suggests memorials be sent to Breckenridge Village, 15062 CR 1145, Tyler, TX 75704 or to a favorite charity.
The family also wishes to extend their appreciation to her caregivers Alma Lopez, Priscilla Gallion, and Arnie Faye Sanders, who tended to Wilma's every need.
