Memorial services for Suzanne Deering Ellis, 76 of Abernathy, TX will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. Damon Pearce and Rev. Joel Perez, officiating. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Ellis died in her home Monday, September 5, 2022. Suzanne Deering Ellis was born September 9, 1945, to Lowery Gaines and Dorotha Rae (McDaniel) Deering in Bisbee, AZ. Her family moved from Arizona to Texas before she was two years old. She loved living in the small town of Abernathy. Her favorite Saturday activity was going to her Dad's barber shop where he would give her a quarter. This quarter would get her popcorn, coke, and entrance to the double feature movies. After her day at the movies, she'd act out the movies word for word. She quickly discovered the First Baptist Church and would attend every Sunday. She discovered her natural talent of singing, and often sang for the church as a young girl. Her Senior year of high school, she became the Abernathy High School Band Drum Major. After graduating she worked as a DJ at the local radio station. Susie later met Keith Ellis, who she married in June of 1965. She was the most beautiful bride. Together they raised 3 children, during their 57 years together. Susie worked as the high school secretary for 32 years. She often helped many students through difficult times. Susie continued with her beautiful talent, singing for many weddings, funerals and special events at church. As her final days played out, she spoke of angels, and loved ones who were waiting on her in heaven, she now she celebrates with them in heaven. Susie leaves behind her husband Keith Ellis of Abernathy, daughter Kathie Richards of Austin, TX, and 2 sons Kevin Ellis and wife Jennifer of Amarillo, TX and Kory Ellis and wife Veronica of Cedar Park, TX. 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren, sister Jerry Nell Presley and husband Don of Lubbock and a brother Larry Deering of San Antonio, TX, sister-in-law, Lou Deering of Kingman, AZ, numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Bella. Susie was preceded in death by a brother Billy Deering. The family would like to thank Betty Cagle, Larry and Bitsy Aldridge, Janice McKenzie, Lori Forbes, Mark and Lori King of King Pharmacy, First Baptist Church, Hospice of the South Plains, and Abell Funeral Home.
