Obituary of Antonio Villanueva

Rosary for Antonio M. Villanueva, 78, of Lubbock, TX, will be recited at 6:00 pm Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Wood officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 4, 2021 in the same church with the same officiant. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Villanueva died at his home in Lubbock, Saturday, October 30, 2021. He was born July 19, 1943 in Robstown, TX, to Theodore and Delores (Mendoza) Villanueva. He was raised in Robstown and moved to Abernathy in 1963. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1967 until 1969. He married Janie Valdez, December 20, 1969 in Shallowater, TX. Mr. Villanueva worked at Robinson Steel in Lubbock, as a welder, for 45 years, until the company closed. He loved working with his hands and taking his precious wife dancing and drinking beer. He was a member of St. Joseph, St. John Neuman and St. Patrick Catholic Churches in Lubbock. He was preceded in death by a brother, Juan Villanueva and 2 sisters, Susie Gonzales and Lupe Villanueva. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Janie Villanueva of Lubbock, 3 children, Antonio Villanueva, Jr and wife Christine and Tianna Sanchez and husband Augustine all of Lubbock, and Sophia Moreno and husband Manuel of Abernathy, 7 grandchildren, a brother, Roy Villanueva of Abernathy and sister-in-law, Julie Villanueva of Abernathy.
