Graveside services for Verda Jean Arthur, 96, of Lubbock, TX, formerly of Abernathy, will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2020, in the Abernathy Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Verda died Monday November 2, 2020 in Lubbock, TX. She was born October 2, 1924 to Joe & Letha (Winters) Sindelar. Verda married Wayne R. Arthur July 4, 1945 in Holdenville, OK, who she was a faithful wife to for 61 years. They lived in Mercedes, TX and Lubbock, TX before moving to Abernathy, TX where she lived for 69 years. She taught Sunday School for many years at the Abernathy First Church of the Nazarene. Verda enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewing, often using this gift to make her children's clothing. She thoroughly enjoyed getting to work in her garden. Verda was fond of going RVing and fishing. She was a loving grandma to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Verda is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne R. Arthur on November 19, 2006, a grandson, Nathan Conn, and a sister, Adelene German. She is survived by 2 sons, Jerry Arthur and wife Linda of Morton, TX and Gary Arthur and wife Sherri of Lubbock, TX, 2 daughters, Sandra Causbie and husband David of Weatherford, TX and Joyce Conn and husband James of Abernathy, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Billie Kirk and husband Bill of Morris, OK. The family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimer's Texas 7719 Wood Hollow Drive Suite #157 Austin, TX 78731.
