Obituary of Leonita (Kocich) Shadden

Services for Leonita (Kocich) Shadden, 90, of Charles City, IA, and formerly of Abernathy, will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in the Northside Baptist Church, Abernathy, with Rev. Joel Perez, pastor, officiating.  The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 6:00pm until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 2, 2019.  Burial will follow services in the Plainview Memorial Park, Plainview, TX, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy.

Leonita Shadden died Friday, June 21, 2019, in Charles City, IA.

She was born April 1, 1929 to Eddie and Elsie (Kresta) Kocich in Moulton, TX.   Leonita graduated from Cotton Center High School in 1946 and moved to Abernathy.  She married Oliver Shadden in June of 1946 in Clovis, NM and graduated from LVN school in 1956 and worked in nursing for many years in Hale Center and Plainview Medical Center in Plainview, TX, before retiring.  Following her retirement she moved to Grapevine, TX where she lived until moving to Charles City in 2015 with her daughter and son-in-law. 

She enjoyed her family, friends, old and new, reading and polka music.

She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Shadden in 1954 and by husbands, Curtis "Bud" Warren, Edgar Miller and Jim Webb and a brother, Sonny Kocich.

Ms. Shadden was survived by 4 children Edward "Butch" Shadden and wife Sue of Little Elm, TX, Cindy White and husband Jay of Charles City, IA, Oliver Shadden and wife Leticia of Abernathy and David Shadden and wife Debra of Douglas, WY, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sister, Agnes Barecky of El Campo, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

Suggests memorials can be made in memory of mom, donations may be made to Mrs. Shadden's granddaughter Misty, who continues her cancer journey.  Contributions may be made to the Misty M. Jackson Benefit Fund through the app Venmo using @misty-Jackson-5 or by mail to State Bank, P. O. Box 125, Charles City, IA 50616.
