Graveside services for Pearl Payne, 91, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Joel Perez, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating.  The family will gather to receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, March 18th, at Abell Funeral Home.  Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.

Ms. Payne died Saturday, March 16, 2019 in Plainview, TX.

She was born, one of triplets, June 21, 1927 at Four Mile, OK to Dola Ray and Melissa Abigail (Bell) Lansdon.  The family moved to Abernathy in 1940 from Four Mile in a wagon and used a ferry boat to cross the Red River.  She could pull a full 250 lb. gunny sack, full of cotton, herself, and she handmade smaller sacks for the younger children.  She organized and kept the history of Four Mile, and loved oil painting.  Her granddaughter described her as a "strong, creative lady that was the best cook".  She was one that would laugh until she cried!

She had a strong faith, and was a founding member of the Northside Baptist Church in Abernathy.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Chesky, December 17, 2018 and 3 brothers, J. C. Galloway, Monroe Galloway and Burl Lansdon.

She is survived by 4 children, Larry Payne and wife Tracy of Jefferson, TX, Karen Davis of Abernathy, Peggie Schaap and husband Steve of Amarillo, TX and Gary Payne of Alabama, 2 sisters, Murl Knight and Lois Fuller both of Abernathy, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be sent to a dementia / alzheimer's association or to a favorite charity.
