Obituary of Earl J. Routh

Graveside services for Earl J. Routh, 85, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, March 13, 2019, in the Abernathy Cemetery.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, in the Living Word Church, 1102 Slide Road, Lubbock, TX, with Rev. Barry Tilley and Rev. Harvey Wampler officiating.  The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 12, 2019.  Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.

He died Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Plainview, TX.

He was born August 3, 1933 in Sallisaw, Ok to Henry and Opal "Pokey" (Wright) Routh. He married Carol Gray in 1954 at Strathmere, CA. They moved to Abernathy in 1976 to buy an antique and junk store which they still own and operate.  Prior to moving to Abernathy, they lived in Franklin, TX, where they ranched.  Earl loved fishing, deer hunting and working with his hands.  While Carol operated the store, he did handy work and plumbing on the side.

He was preceded by a great grandson, Brandon Dreyer and 4 siblings, Eddie Routh, Bobby Ruth, Wanda Lyles and Martha Routh.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carol Routh of Abernathy, 2 sons, Earl G. Routh and wife Marlene of Mineola, TX and Terry Routh of Plainview, 2 grandchildren, Amanda and Marcus, 8 great grandchildren and 3 siblings.
