Obituary of Loren West

Services for Loren J. West, 87, of Lubbock, TX and formerly of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Monday, November 14, 2005, in the Abernathy First United Methodist Church. Burial followed services in Resthaven Cemetery, Lubbock, TX under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. West died at his home, Thursday, November 10, 2005. He was born July 17, 1918 in Oklahoma Lane, TX, where he lived before attending and graduating from Texas Tech University with a degree in Agriculture Education. He served in the United States Army Air Corps. He married Doris Faye Peeples, July 17, 1941 in Lubbock, she preceded him in death June 21, 1993. They moved to Abernathy in 1951 from Hale Center, TX. He had been a longtime member of the Abernathy First United Methodist Church where he had sang in the choir. He served on the Abernathy School Board for 21 years, and 18 of those years he served as President. In June of 1994, he married Darleen Ditmore Jones in Lubbock. They served together as volunteers for Hospice of Lubbock and served on the Board of Directors. He is survived by his wife, Darleen West of Lubbock, TX, a son, Danny West and his wife Marsha of Houston, TX, 2 daughters, Twyla Marcy and her husband Philip of Plainview, TX, and Mitzi Gilbert of Idalou, TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brandon Marcy and wife Rebecca of Lubbock, Jamie VonWiller and husband Dennis of Abilene, TX, Lauren Collison and husband Robert and Mark West all of Austin, TX, Dustin Gilbert and Trevor Gilbert both of Idalou, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy First United Methodist Church Choir or to Hospice of Lubbock. Abell Funeral Home
