Services for Michael E. Smith, 55, of Plainview, TX, were held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 18, 2006, in the 9th & Columbia Street Church of Christ, Plainview, TX, with Colquitt Nash officiating. Burial followed in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Plainview, TX, under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mr. Smith died at his home, Tuesday morning, March 14, 2006. He was born October 7, 1950 in Plainview, TX. He graduated from Hale Center High School. He married Laura Mann on March 9, 1976 in Plainview, TX. He served in the United States Navy and was employed with Cargill Meats Solutions for 32 years. He attended the 9th & Columbia Street Church of Christ but was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan, following Texas Tech University, Plainview High School and Hale Center High School sports. He was a beloved father, husband and friend. Muttley was the beloved pet and companion to Mike. Seldom did you see them when they weren't together, even leaving this earthly life within a week of each other. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Laura Smith of Plainview, TX, 2 sons, Denny Price of Lubbock, TX and Randy Price of Albuquerque, NM, 3 brothers, Larry Smith of Seattle, WA, Jack Smith of Mineral Wells, TX, Freddy Smith of Hale Center, TX, and 4 grandchildren, Mitchell Price, Channing Best, Dalon Ramirez and Keevon Crump. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Association or to Alchoholics Annonymous. Abell Funeral Home
