Services for Joe Leslie McMennamy, 83, of Midland, TX were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 13, 2007, in the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center, TX with Rev. Jerry Don Cheshire, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Abernathy, TX, officiating. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mr McMennamy died March 10, 2007in Midland, TX. He was born July 1, 1923 in Dimmitt, TX and he graduated from Hale Center High School in 1941 and then served in the United State Coast Guard from 1941-1944. He married Mary Rebecca Harris on August 31, 1944 in Raleigh, NC, they made there home in Cotton Center, TX where he was employed with Allen and Beach, Inc. until 1967. He lived in Virginia and Maryland before moving to Midland, TX in 1981 where he was employed at Midland College until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca McMennamy of Midland, TX, 3 daughters, Louise McCollum and her husband Dwayne of Midland, TX, Teresa Copeland and her husband Johnny of Perryton, TX, Jo Ann Seabolt of Centreville, VA, a sister, Jane McMurtrey of Big Spring, TX, a brother, Jerry McMennamy of Amarillo, TX, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Carlen Woelfel in 2005. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Methodist Childrens Home in Waco,TX, The Mabee Center at Manor Park in Midland, TX or Hospice of Midland, TX. The family will receive friends at Freeman-Abell Funeral Home Monday evening, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm. Abell Funeral Home
