Obituary of Melvin Mahagan

Services for Melvin Mahagan, 79, of Hale Center, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 29, 2008, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Carroll Green and Rev. Elias Moralez officiating. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mr. Mahagan died at his residence in Hale Center on Monday, October 27, 2008. He was born on February 16, 1929 in Lubbock, TX and moved to Hale Center in 1952. He married Ruby Cagle on February 4, 1972 in Morton, TX. He farmed in the Sterley, Lockney, Petersburg, Providence and Hale Center areas and was a member of Young Farmers Association and the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed bowling on Burgess and Sons bowling team for many years. He and Ruby were also members of Belles & Bows Square Dance Club and Happy Hearts Round Dance. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mahagan of Hale Center, TX, 2 sons, Leslie Mahagan and his wife Joan of Braintree, Mass. and Roger Mahagan and his wife Linda of Hale Cente, TX, a stepdaughter, Debbie Stokes and her husband Joe of Plano, TX, a stepson, Steve Overman of Houston, TX, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Alan Mahagan, a grandson, Keith Alan Mahagan and 2 brothers, L.G. Mahagan and Richard Mahagan. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Lubbock, Hale Center Cemetery or First United Methodist Church in Hale Center. Abell Funeral Home
