Services for L A Johnson, 76, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in the Abernathy Church of Christ. Minister Larry Bloskas, officiated. Military graveside services followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Mr. Johnson died Monday, March 10, 2008, in Lubbock, TX. He was born September 13, 1931 at the family home near Slaton, TX to Sam and Elizabeth Johnson. He graduated from Ropesville High School and on November 25, 1952 he married Mary Alice ONeal there in Ropesville, TX. She preceded him in death June 6, 1968. L A was a member of the Abernathy Church of Christ and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army from 1949 until 1952. He was a farmer, rancher and gin manager. He custom farmed the CRP (farm program) on the High Plains. He had served as President of the Anton Lions Club. L A was preceded in death by a grandson, Matt Luttrell in December of 2001. He is survived by 3 daughters, Zandra Luttrell of Shallowater, TX, Marva Rainbolt and her husband Lightnin of Dickens, TX and Letha Hershy and her husband Tom of Alamosa, CO, one son, Layton Johnson of Shallowater, TX, 4 grandchildren, Mindy Attaway and her husband Michael of Abernathy, TX, Kyle Rainbolt of Dickens, TX, Megan Robinett and Brice Johnson both of Lubbock, TX and a great grandson, Myles Attaway of Abernathy, TX. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Abernathy Senior Citizens, 717 Ave. C, Abernathy, TX 79311. Abell Funeral Home
