Obituary of Martha Lou Burnett

Memorial services for Martha Lou Burnett, 96, of Cotton Center, TX, will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, in the First Baptist Church, Cotton Center, with Rev. J. D. Templeton officiating. Private family burial will be held in the Center Plains Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy. The family will gather in the fellowship hall to receive friends following service. Mrs. Burnett died Wednesday, November, 8, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. Martha was born March 12, 1927 at the family home in Cotton Center, to Forest and Emma (Pool) Sageser. She was raised in Cotton Center where she attended schools, graduating in 1944. She earned her Bachelors in Home Economics from Texas Tech University. She married W. E. Burnett, Jr, July 25, 1948 in Cotton Center. She began her teaching career at Cotton Center ISD when her son Troy was in 2nd grade. She was a member of the Cotton Center First Baptist Church and taught the Women's Sunday School class for many years. Martha loved to travel, was a great cook, enjoyed working in her yard and fishing. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, W. E. Burnett, Jr, February 23, 2002, 3 siblings, Emma Frances McCluskey, Jack Sageser and Max Sageser, a son-in-law, Wesley Ahrens and daughter-in-law, Connie Burnett. She is survived by 4 children, Carolyn Johnson and husband Jim of Greenville, TX, Janice Ahrens of Fulshear, TX, Troy Burnett and wife Saralyn of Cotton Center and Kyle Burnett and wife Kimberly also of Cotton Center, 9 grandchildren, Amy Ahrens Rowzee and husband Chris, Brad Ahrens and wife Kristi, Brian Johnson and wife Carolina, Craig Johnson and wife Jessica, Abbie Burnett Lankitus and husband David, Macie Burnett, Cassie Burnett, Darcie Burnett and Amber Teal and husband Slade and 12 great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 287, Cotton Center, TX., 79021
