Graveside services for Hazel Mahon Toler, of Lubbock, TX, were held at 10:00 am Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Toler died Sunday, June 6, 2010, in Lubbock, TX. She was born in 1921 in Valliant, OK, to Charles and Alice (Snow) Mahon. She married Marvin Toler in August 1939 in Clovis, NM. Hazel lived in the Abernathy area for over 70 years. She was supervisor of the Abernathy First Baptist Church nursery for 22 years and worked for the Abernathy Schools for over 10 years. She was a 55 year member of the Abernathy Rebekah Lodge where she held most local and several state offices. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association in Lubbock for years where she was voted Woman of the Year. Hazel was also a member of the First Baptist Church and Senior Citizen's in Abernathy. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin after 65 years of marriage. She is survived by daughters, Geanie Durrett and Margaret Toler, both of Lubbock, TX, grandsons Kris Durrett of Waynesboro, TN, Lane Attebury of Lubbock, TX and Kraig (Lisa) Durrett of Boston, Mass., granddaughter, Krecia (Patrick) Hicks of Little Rock, Ark, and three great grandchildren. Hazel has one surviving sister, Helen Totty of Flatonia, TX, brothers-in-law, Robert Melvin (Eleanor) Toler of Amarillo, TX, Hoppy (Mona) Toler of Abernathy, TX and sister -in-law, Wilma (Noel) Johnson of Dallas, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Tanglewood Village and Hospice of Lubbock for the wonderful care that they took of Hazel before Alzheimer's claimed her life.
