Services for Ann Mary Vasek Paxton, 100, formerly of Abernathy, Texas, will be held Monday, August 3, 2015, at 2:00pm in the Abell Funeral Home, Abernathy, Texas, with Louis Schaap officiating. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery. Mrs. Paxton died Friday, July 31, 2015, in Austin, Texas. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. Ann was born March 9, 1915 to Frank & Hermina (Koenchy) Vasek in Gordon, Texas. Ann moved to the Abernathy, Texas area at 6 years of age with her family and attended school there. In her early adulthood she worked for Pinson Pharmacy. She met Arlie Paxton at the Soda Fountain there. Although she grew up in a Catholic home, she converted to the Nazarene Church soon after meeting her future husband, Arlie. She lived a long and devoted Christian life and instilled those values to those around her. There's a special place in Heaven for her. She married Arlington Hall Paxton "Arlie" on January 31, 1944. They shared 56 years together as a couple. They had one infant son E. B. who died shortly after birth. Later, they adopted "Ronald Dewayne Montgomery" soon after his birth and renamed him Edward Boyce Paxton who was born on April 5, 1947 In Pilot Point, Texas in Palo Pinto County, Texas. He was their son for life. They lived and worked on the O.D. Rhodes Farm east of Abernathy, Texas for many good years before moving into town for their retirement years. Ann was a great cook being known for her fried chicken and outstanding homemade dinner rolls that everyone couldn't get enough of. Upon Arlie's passing on June 9, 2000 at the age of 84 she moved to Baytown, Texas to be near Boyce & his wife Linda. She lived there independently until the age of 92 in her own apartment. She then moved to "The Pointe" in Webster, Texas (an assisted living facility in Houston) and lived there for the next 6 years. When Boyce & Linda moved to the Austin area in 2012, she moved with them to West Oaks Rehabilitation & Health Center where she lived until her death. There she was well cared for and loved by the staff, other residents & the administration. She was blessed to live a long, productive and Christian life. In spite of health issues late in life she remained upbeat, met every day with a smile and determination. Her influence reached all who she came into contact with. She remained active and was loved and cared for by friends & family. Her mind remained sharp as she was an avid reader of her Bible, books and newspapers. Ann's 100th birthday was celebrated on Sunday, March 8th, 2015 at West Oaks with many relatives, friends, residents and staff. It was truly a day of celebration for reaching this milestone of ten decades. We all celebrate her life as she goes to be with her creator who has open arms for her.
