Obituary of Lee Ross

Memorial Services for Lee Ross, 76, of New Deal, Texas and formerly of Springer, New Mexico, will be held Friday, August 21, 2015, at 3:00pm (MST) in the Abbott Cemetery with Rev. John Spruill officiating. Mr. Ross died Friday, July 31, 2015 in Lubbock, TX. Cremation services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, Texas. The Ross family will gather on August 21, 2015 at the annex of First Baptist Church, 920 4th Street, Springer, NM, from 12:00 pm until 2:15 pm to receive friends. Lee was born on August 8, 1938 to Bennie and Arlene (Payton) Ross in Orville, California. He married Joann Horn on May 30, 1964 in Raton, NM. Lee owned and operated the Texico stations in Cimarron and Springer, New Mexico, for 22 years. During that time he obtained his GB98 contractor's license in New Mexico and built numerous homes and businesses specializing in solar work. He served as president of the Springer Chamber of Commerce and was also a member of the JC's. In the late 1980's, they moved to New Jersey and Amarillo, Texas, before moving to New Deal. He was a cabinet maker as well as manager for Rip Griffin Truck Stop on Avenue A in Lubbock for four years. Lee served as as Municipal Judge of New Deal for seven years. He is survived by his wife, Joann Ross, of New Deal, his son, Keith Ross and girlfriend, Anne, of Quannah, Texas, 3 grandchlidren, Meagan Ross, Dustin Ross, and Shawn Ross, all of Couer d'Alene, Idaho, a brother, Loy Ross, and a sister, Marietta Shell, both of Springer, New Mexico, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home, 2200 South Avenue I, Portales, NM 88130.
