Services for Retha Cannon Huffhines, 84, of Hale Center, TX, will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, in the First Baptist Church with Bro. Kris Knippa and Bro. Carrol Green. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, TX. The family will gather to receive friends at Abell Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 10th from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.
Mrs. Huffhines died at her home Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014.
She was born West of Hale Center on February 21, 1930 to David Earl and Ocie Gladys (Perry) Cannon. She married M. E. (Ed) Huffhines March 18, 1948 in Plainview, TX. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1997. She was a lifelong Hale County resident and farmed along side her husband and was a 4-H leader for over 25 years. She was baptized at the Hale Center First Baptist Church on August 8, 1955, where she remained a life long member. She was a hardworker, loved to travel and loved her family. She was always extremely fair with her kids and made them accountable.
She is survived by her daughter Janis Berry and husband Sid, 4 sons, Eddie and wife Barbara, James and wife Resa, Jerry and wife Melissa and Mark and wife Melissa all of Hale Center, TX. She is survived by 3 sisters, her twin, Reba Thornton of Abernathy, TX, Veleta Russell and husband Calvin of Manford, OK and Glenda Garrett and husband Howard of Springdale, AR, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
