Obituary of Jean Gier-Knight

Memorial services for Jean Gier-Knight, 64, of Abernathy, TX, will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 23, 2013, on the Knight Family Farm East of Abernathy. Cremation is under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX. Mrs. Gier Knight died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at her home in Abernathy. She was born July 12, 1948 in Toledo, OR. She married Roy Knight in October of 1982 in Gordonville, TX. She served in the US Army from October 1974 until March of 1977 in Fort Benning, GA and Fort Richardson, AK. They moved to Abernathy in 2005 from Mimbres, NM. After going through cancer treatments and realizing the need many cancer patients have for assistance, she and Roy founded the "Riding to Cure, Jean Gier-Knight Foundation". She is survived by her husband Roy Knight and Mother Margaret (Grandma) Gier both of Abernathy, TX, 6 children, Clearence Allen Bryant II of Hutchison, KS, Dennis Wayne Knight of Omaha, Nebraska, Christopher Gordon Bryant of Indianapolis, IN, Anna Marie Shawver of Ponder, TX, Shawn Russell Bryant of Denton, TX and Jon Michael Bryant of Ponder, TX, 7 Grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Lawrence Edward Gier of Pendleton, OR a sister, Diane Louise Sikes of Belen, NM. The family suggests memorials be sent to "Riding to Cure, Jean Gier-Knight Foundation, at 3411 FM 597 East, Abernathy, TX 79311.
