Mr. Cargill died Sunday, February 3, 2013 in Lubbock, TX.
He was born September 6, 1928 in Nolan County, TX to Homer and Allie (Lewis) Cargil. If you are a longtime Hale Center resident you probably remember his gas station. He probably filled your tank, checked the oil and tires, cleaned your windshield, and gave the kids gum. You may have worked with him at Walmart, COOP, Edmonson Wheat Growers or Burgess Oil. He may have called you out for slacking off and then patted you on the back and told you when you did a good job. You may have gone to church with him. He was there like clockwork...at least until his "clock" didn't work so well. You may just know him from around town. It was hard to take him anywhere that he didn't run into a friend and if he didn't see one, he would make one.
He married a beautiful girl, Merry Edna Neeley, February 22, 1951 in Clovis, NM, and no man ever loved his wife more. He bought a house and started a business in small town USA. He has three children, Carolyn Sue Sims of Amarillo, TX., Edna Lee Cargill of Lubbock and Howard Wayne Cargill of Hale Center, TX. " He provided for and taught us right. He didn't just tell us what was right, he showed us."
He is survived by his wife and3 children, 4 grandchildren, Anna Langford, Johnny Sims, Lisa White and Joscelyn Cargill, 6 great grandchildren, Brandon, Eric, Lucas, Madison, Kempson and Chantel, a brother, Gordon Cargill and a sister Louise Halford both of Lubbock, TX.
