Walter Blackwell

Graveside services for Walter B. Blackwell, 87, of Chaparral, NM, and formerly of Plainview, Tx., were held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at Center Plains Cemetery, Cotton Center, Tx., with Rev. John Henry Roberts officiating. Services were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, Tx. Mr. Blackwell died Saturday, January 5, 2002 in El Paso, Tx. He was born on February 14, 1914 in Ft. Worth, Tx. He married Alma L. Looney on March 30, 1941 in Plainview, Tx. She preceded him in death on November 1, 1981. He was a former member and helped build the Calvary Baptist Church in Plainview, Tx. He was a Plainview resident from 1941 until moving to El Paso in 1965, where he was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter Opal Harris who died in March of 1998. Survivors: 3 sons, Charles A. Roberts of Maricopa, Az., John H. Roberts of Quanah, Tx., and James E. Blackwell of Chaparral, NM. 1 daughter, Jean Meeks of Tahoka, Tx. 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. To view other online obituaries log onto Abell Funeral Home
