Services for Judge Marvin W. Toler, 85, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in the Abernathy First Baptist Church with Rev. John Lowrie and Rev. Larry Perkins officiating. Burial followed in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX. Judge Toler died Tuesday morning, Dec. 21, 2004, in Lubbock, TX. He was born February 25, 1919 in Bisbee, AZ to Robert Wesley Toler and Oma F. (Carpenter) Toler. He moved to Abernathy at age 6 from Arizona with his family and attended Science Hill School and graduated for Abernathy High School in 1938. He married Hazel Lucille Mahon, August 19, 1939 in Clovis, NM. Judge Toler farmed and was employed at Diamond Shamrock for 28 years, and then served as Municipal Judge in Abernathy for 11 years. He was a member of the Order of the Oddfellows Lodge for 47 years, member of the First Baptist Church, Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Abernathy Senior Citizens. Music was the love of his life, playing the piano and later taking his keyboard to various functions and events. He is survived by his wife, Hazel of Abernathy, TX, 2 daughters, Margaret Toler of Lubbock, TX, Geanie Durrett of Lewisville, TX, a sister, Wilma Johnson of Decatur, TX, 2 brothers, Robert M. Toler of Amarillo, TX, and O. C. "Hoppy" of Abernathy. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Kris Durrett of Memphis, TN, Krecia Durrett of Little Rock, Ark, Kraig Durrett and his wife Lisa of Leominster, Mass and Lane Attebury of Lubbock, TX and 2 great grandchildren, Kala and Parker Durrett both of Nashville, TN. The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church, 411 7th Street, Abernathy, TX 79311 or to the Abernathy Senior Citizens, 717 Ave. C, Abernathy, TX 79311. Abell Funeral Home
