Obituary of Gertrude Roddy

Gertrude "Trudy" Roddy Services for Gertrude "Trudy" Roddy, 80, of Hale Center, Texas, were held at 2pm Thursday, December 27, 2001, in the Hale Center First United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, Tx. Mrs. Roddy died Monday evening, December 24, 2001, at her home in Hale Center, Tx. She was born June 5, 1921 in Galveston, Tx., to James Carey Crouch and Claytie Lee Craig Crouch. The family moved to Dallas, Tx., in 1925. Mrs. Roddy graduated from North Dallas High School and in 1943 graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in elementary education. She married Wesley M. Roddy, June 25, 1943 in Dallas, Tx. They farmed in Lubbock, Tx., and later bought a farm in Hale Center. In 1950, the Roddys' bought a ranch in Colorado where they lived for three years. They returned to Hale Center where Mr. Roddy farmed and Mrs. Roddy taught elementary school. In 1970 they moved to the outback of Western Australia, where they lived until returning to Hale Center in 1975. Mrs. Roddy continued her teaching career until her retirement, after twenty-eight years in the profession. Survivors; Husband, Wesley Roddy of Hale Center, Tx. 3 Daughters, Lynn Brown of Houston, Tx., Peggy Morris of New Braunfels, Tx., and Sue Ferguson of Odessa, Tx. 2 Sisters, Caren Trabue of Kansas City, and Betty Carter of Dallas, Tx. 7 Grandchildren, Kim Brown Wilson, Wes Brown, Nancy Brown, Margaret Morris, Patricia Morris, Kerri Ferguson Stampes, and Ryan Ferguson.
