Graveside services for Virginia Matthews, 81, were held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, TX with Randy Butler officiating. Services were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, TX. Mrs. Matthews died July 21, 2003 at Bender Terrace Nursing Home in Lubbock, TX. She was born on November 5, 1921 in Dilley, TX. She married Royce Matthews on September 25, 1940 in Whitharral, TX. He passed away on June 19, 1992. She was a longtime resident of Hale Center, TX and a member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center. She was an accomplished artist. Survivors include 1 daughter: Janie Flanagan of Lamesa, TX, 1 brother: Morris Keeney of Durham, CA, 1 sister: Rebecca Stewart of Ft. Worth.
