Services for W. C. "Clois" Johnson, 88, of Abernathy, TX, were held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 28, 2002, in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Teeters and Rev. John Lowrie officiating.
Burial followed services in Lubbock, TX under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy, TX.
Mr. Johnson died Monday, March 25, 2002 in Lubbock, TX.
He was born on January 17, 1914 in Olustee, Okla. He married Ruby Mildred Henson on December 1, 1944 in El Centro, Calif. She preceded him in death on September 26, 1971. On May 6, 1972, he married Louise Stout Waters in Abernathy, TX. He served in the United States Marines during WWI. He enlisted on February 6, 1942 until September 5, 1945. He served on the Lubbock Police Department from 1947 until 1950, and worked as a Lubbock Deputy Sheriff from September of 1950 until retiring on June 1, 1972. He had been a Lubbock resident from 1945 until moving to Abernathy in 1972.
He was a former member of the American Business Club in Lubbock and the American Legion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Johnson of Abernathy, TX,
2 sons, Lee Roy Johnson of North Glenn, CO, and James Waters of Mauldin, S.C.,
1 brother, Herman Johnson of Goldthwaite, TX, and
1 sister, Roylene Hall of Corpus Christi, TX,
5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 411 - 7th Street, Abernathy, TX, 79311.
