Jean Hicks Memorial services for Jean Hicks, 76, of Santa Ana, Ca., and formerly of Hale Center, Tx., were held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 8, 2001, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Rowland officiating. Private burial attended by the family will follow. Services were under the direction of Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center, Tx. A wonderful and loving mother, Mrs. Hicks entered into eternal rest at age 76, at her daughter's home in California on December 1, 2001, after a brave and valiant battle against cancer and emphysema. Her parents, Aubrey and Jeff Ivey; her husband, Jack L. Hicks; her children, Janet and Jeffrey; and her sister, Patsy Beth Parker, all preceded her in death. She was born on September 27, 1925, in Hale Center, Texas, where Mrs. Hicks and her family were long time residents. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center. Mr. Jack Hicks farmed for years and Mrs. Hicks, while raising her children, apprenticed as a florist under the talent of Arlene Freeman. After relocating to Phoenix, Arizona in 1971, Mrs. Hicks continued as a florist, and later she and Mr. Hicks acquired Abernathy Floral. Mr. and Mrs. Hicks enjoyed living in Houston, Tx; Ruidoso, NM; and Carrollton, Tx, over the years. "Jean was a kind and generous mother, who leaves behind sweet memories that will last a lifetime. She touched so very many people in so many ways. She will be deeply missed, but we feel blessed and grateful to have been given such a wonderful, caring mother." Survivors; 1 son, Chris Hicks, and his wife Beverly, of Carrollton, Tx., 1 daughter, Kyle Eales, and her husband Mike, of Santa Ana, Ca., 1 sister, Janelle, and Orville Hicks, of Canyon, Tx., grandchildren, C.
