Obituary of Ollie Gary

Ollie Oneta Gary, resident of the Hale Center community, after a courageous sudden battle with cancer, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Monday, July 5, 2010. She was born in Bryant, OK moved to New Mexico and graduated from Hagerman High School. She moved with her husband and family to Texas and lived in the Olton, Halfway and Hale Center area for 47 years. She held her Masters Special Education credential from WBU and was teaching at Carr Middle School in Hale Center.
Oneta was the fifth child of eight born to George Bert and Maudie Finch and was the beloved wife of Bill Gary for over 60 years. She will be forever remembered by her two sisters, Cariene and Della, her children, Gale, Billy, Kathy, Leslie, Twyla and their families. "Murr" will be in the hearts of her treasured grand and great grandchildren, all 50 of them and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved so much. Countless friends and students will miss the love she shared and were blessed to know her.
Oneta loved teaching, being with her family and sharing the love of Christ. She attended and taught Sunday School at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center. She touched the lives of many people with her teaching abilities, love, concern and generous heart. She was very brave and shared her love all the way to the end of her life.
Friends and family were invited to wear white, not black to celebrate the life of Neta Gary, 77, at 2:00 pm Friday, July 9, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Jimmy Cameron and Billy Gary officiating. Burial followed in Center Plains Cemetery in Cotton Center under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center.
